Behind every successful project we complete at GEV Wind Power, there is a dedicated team of highly skilled technicians and professional back-office support ensuring smooth operations. We recognize that everyone in our workforce has a vital role to play, which allows us to continue providing providing blade maintenance services and wind turbine maintenance to to clients globally.

We’ve connected with UK/EU Project Manager; Glenn, one of our back-office team members to shed some light on his role as a project manager and provide behind-the-scenes insight into his journey and experiences at GEV Wind Power.

Stepping into the wind industry:

My journey into the wind industry began in late 2015 when I attended a renewable energy workshop in Hull, UK. The workshop sparked a deep inspiration within me to contribute to the green energy movement. Fuelled by this newfound passion, I took a leap and applied for a team leader position within the repair department of a newly established wind turbine blade manufacturing factory.

In February 2016, I embarked on this exciting chapter, becoming one of the first 5% of employees at the factory. As part of our preparation for the launch of operations, my team and I travelled to Denmark to receive further training and education at a sister factory. This invaluable experience ensured that when operations went live, we were well-prepared to hit the ground running.

Throughout my time as a repair manufacturing team leader, I had the privilege of leading a highly successful team within the factory. Together, we accomplished many remarkable achievements, further fuelling my motivation to make a lasting impact and shape the future of renewable energy. It became increasingly clear to me that the renewable energy sector was where I truly belonged.

And so, driven by my passion for sustainability and the desire to continue shaping a greener future, I made the decision to dive back into the wind industry with GEV. It is an exciting new chapter in my career, and I am eager to contribute my skills and expertise to this dynamic and evolving field.

Becoming a project manager:

My journey with GEV Wind Power started in February, and what an incredible ride it has been so far! I am thriving as a Project Manager, entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing a major offshore project in Belgium. To be given the opportunity to lead such a significant project has been a true pleasure. The wind industry is dynamic and challenging, and I’m loving every moment of it. Every day brings new experiences, allowing me to grow both professional and personally. However, I won’t deny that there have been moments of frustration along the way.

Managing a major offshore project comes with its fair share of challenges from logistics and weather conditions to technical complexities, we have encountered obstacles that tested our resilience. But through it all, I am grateful for the unwavering support of the Senior Management Team and the dedicated teams working alongside me. Their expertise and commitment have helped us navigate these challenges and keep us on track to succeed. With each hurdle we overcome, our confidence grows, and our determination to deliver this project to the highest standards strengthens. The challenges we face are opportunities for growth and improvement, and I am excited to lead the team towards success.

Looking ahead

I am eager to continue my journey in the wind industry (it’s great to be back). The renewable energy sector is rapidly evolving, and I am committed to staying at the forefront of innovation and contributing to its further development. The work we do at GEV is not just a job, it’s a mission to create a greener and more sustainable future. I am grateful to be a part of a company that values growth, learning and teamwork.
