In 2021, GEV Wind Power established its first UK-based training academy at the HOTA training center in Hull. Following its ongoing success and growing demand, the academy has engaged with over 200 technicians through dedicated open sessions, pre-project mobilization training, and upskilling. This has set the foundations for further training development across the wider GEV Group, from North America to Australia…

The inception of the Training Academy enabled GEV as a business to enhance existing skill sets with our in-field resources in various disciplines, such as LEP, PCU, Blade Repair, and specialist cosmetic repair techniques, while also allowing us to train highly skilled technicians with client-specific application methods and techniques.

GEV Wind Power Academy Open Sessions

The two-day-long open sessions have provided newly qualified technicians with the opportunity to hear from industry experts, brush up on valuable skills, and test themselves with blade application techniques in a simulated environment on a test blade.

When discussing the growth of the academy and plans for the space, GEV’s Field Blade Technical Manager and Training Instructor, Andy Rendell, stated:

“The GEV Academy has gone from strength to strength in the 3 years we have been in partnership with HOTA. We started with a vision when I joined the business to upskill current technicians before project mobilization, reducing potential learning curves at the beginning of projects. We have achieved this and more, with the feedback from both technicians and clients being nothing but positive.

The new year will see the academy begin a new phase, with added testing to help us assess the skills of technicians coming through, while developing new talent along the way. This is part of our wider commitment to staying ‘Best in Class’ in what we achieve through positive culture and enhanced training.

A big thank-you goes to HOTA – Hull, for coming on our journey with us, and we are excited to continue working alongside them for many more years to come.”
