THE D-STIFFENER™ IS A SIMPLE YET EFFECTIVE TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPED TO ELIMINATE CRACKS IN THE TRAILING EDGE MIDSECTION OF THE BLADE BY ELIMINATING BUCKLING AS THE ROOT CAUSE WITHOUT ADDING SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT.
Buckling in turbine blades are caused by edgewise loading due to gravity and induce peeling in the adhesive bondlines near the trailing edge and close to the webs. Peeling in the adhesive bondlines directly cause cracks which may lead to larger failures in your blades.
The D-Stiffener™ connects the pressure side and suction side panels which prevents the inward deformation of the panels. The D-Stiffener™ is designed as a stiff rod instead of a string, hence providing stiffness to the rear box in the mid span. By taking out the movement of the panels, the D-Stiffener™ eliminates the occurance of cracks in the panels of the trailing edge and prevents critical stresses in the bond lines in the trailing edge and in the shear web.
